Chevrolet Aveo specs and prices released

The new Aveo has been unveiled to the world in all its supermini glory, complete with full details of prices, engines and specs.

As well as being a remarkably mean-looking thing in its five-door-only form, with a new 1.3-litre diesel engine it can reach heights of 78mpg.

The diesel comes with two power outputs; 74bhp and 94bhp, and joins 1.2 and 1.4 petrols. The diesel is available in standard 94bhp form in the highest LTZ spec cars, while if buyers want the road tax-free 94bhp Eco version and its increased fuel economy they have to settle for mid-range LT trim.

As a strange trade-off, the Eco diesel has a six-litre smaller fuel tank than the other models, potentially cutting about 100 miles off its range. Entry-level LS cars will only be offered with the 1.2-litre petrol engine.

At 4.04 metres long the Aveo is comparable in size to more established B-segment cars. Chevrolet claims new, higher standards of build quality, with minimised panel gaps and more attention to detail.

The striking headlights are exposed after the manner of some motorcycles, and the two-wheeled inspiration continues inside the cabin with a bike-style instrument cluster. This comes with smart blue ambient backlighting.

A six-speed automatic gearbox is available for the first time in the Aveo, in conjunction with the 1.4-litre petrol engine only.

USB inputs are standard on both the four- and the six-speaker stereo options, which alter according to model. Air conditioning is standard on all versions, as are six airbags.

Top-spec LTZ models get leather steering wheel trim, rear parking sensors and automatic headlights. The range starts at £9,995 for the 1.2 LS, with LT trim available from £10,995. LTZ cars cost from £12,195 up to £13,615.
