Construction worker in road tragedy

A YOUNG construction worker from Kent was killed when he was struck by a car on the A3 in Surrey.

The tragedy occurred as he carried out roadworks on the southbound carriageway near Esher Common. Police say the victim, believed to be in his early 20s, died from his injuries at the scene.

The car involved was a white Mitsubishi Colt. The incident happened at about 3.20am on Wednesday.

Traffic on the A3 was delayed for around five hours. The victim has not yet been named. An inquest will be held.
