Cllr Paul Godwin

Any complaints against Kent Police will now be overseen by a Medway Councillor.

Paul Godwin has been appointed Chair of the Professional Standards Committee, which is part of the Kent Police Authority.

The 56-year-old from Walderslade has been a member of the independent body which oversees policing around the county since 2007.

In his new role he will look after the handling of complaints, ensure police standards are upheld and deal with any misconduct issues.

His position will also see him looking after racial incidents and independently monitoring the treatment of prisoners in custody.

Cllr Godwin said:"I am delighted to be taking on this important role so soon after my appointment to the Authority and playing a part in ensuring that the high standards of conduct we have come to expect from Kent Police are maintained."

Chair of the Kent Police Authority Anne Barnes said: "Paul brings with him a breath of knowledge and experience to help with this role and I’m sure he will make a great contribution on behalf of police council taxpayers."
