Gillingham will be without injured midfielders Danny Jackman and Jack Payne for Saturday's League 2 trip to Oxford.

Boss Andy Hessenthaler is also awaiting news on Matt Fish who is facing a fitness test.

He said: "They are two influential players who have done really well for us, but it gives other players an opportunity."

The Gills boss had also hoped to have Charlie Lee back for the game, but he is not yet ready to return.

However, he could be boosted by the return of other players.

Jo Kuffour was back from a knee injury on Monday and Hessenthaler could have Gavin Tomlin and Simon King both fit again.

He said: "We have had key players missing all season and we have had to get on with it. Gavin Tomlin has been missing for a few weeks and he is a spark. He is a clever player.

"Hopefully, we will have him back at the weekend at a vital time."

King has had an injection in his ankle to help with his on-going problems and was due to train this week.

Kuffour had done little training since receiving injections in both knees ahead of Monday’s game. He should be more prepared this weekend.
