Gillingham midfielder Danny Jackman believes that the team showed some of their will-to-succeed against Aldershot on Monday.

The Gills were reduced to 10 men but held onto their one goal advantage.

He said: “We are all together in the changing rooms and we have got that winning desire. We were never going to let that lead slip.

“It was vital to bounce back because we were bitterly disappointed with the performance and the result against Dagenham, especially off the back of the Crawley win.

“We’ve won the next game, which is the important thing and we go into the Stoke game now. We’ll enjoy it and then return to the league and try and push up that table.”

Jackman scored the winner with a neat finish early in the second half.

He said: “It was great to win and after losing last week (at Dagenham) we needed to get back on track.

“It wasn’t the prettiest of performances but a win is a win and that’s the most important thing.

“It was nice for me to get the goal but it doesn’t really matter who scores the goals. We all chip in.”

The Gills turn their attentions back to league matters in a fortnight, against Shrewsbury, and Jackman is hoping they can maintain the pressure on the teams in the automatic promotion places.

“We need to keep winning and keep grinding out results, especially as the season goes on, because the games will run out,” he said.

“With the squad that we have got we will push on and be stronger as the season goes on, while other squads might not be as strong as ours. We have that luxury and it’s vital we keep doing what we are doing at the moment.”
