Danny Jackman cleaned up at Gillingham’s end-of-season awards on Saturday night.

Jackman (pictured) walked away with the supporters’ player-of-the-year trophy along with the players’ player and sponsor’s accolades.

The 29-year-old was delighted with the haul, but admits he would have swapped them all for promotion.

He said: "I always said if I can stay fit and get some games under my belt I was confident I could perform to a relatively good level.

"Thankfully this year it has gone well for me. There have been a lot of good performers out there, not just me. It is a team and we win and lose as a team.

"These awards are nice but I would have given them up for promotion, any player would. That’s what you are judged on ultimately, the success in leagues."

Jackman was one of only four players to have passed the 40-game mark in all competitions.

With consistent performances throughout the season he feels he has won a few people over.

"To have won the award from my fellow professionals means the most, but a big thanks to the fans," he said.

"I like to think I have won them over. When you are not playing and not fit, people’s perceptions of you change, but hopefully this year I have shown I can still do it and I am still a good player."

Taking the runner-up award in the player-of-the-season category was 14-goal leading scorer Danny Kedwell while keeper Paulo Gazzaniga was third.

Gazzaniga, 19, also took the award for young player-of-the-year while Jack Payne was named away player-of-the-year.

The goal-of-the-season, voted by the supporters, went to Chris Whelpdale for his audacious chip at Torquay in October.

Payne’s goal at Bournemouth in the FA Cup was second.
