The campaign has encouraged more domestic violence victims to prosecute their attackers

A CAMPAIGN to reduce domestic violence in Kent has been given extra funding to purchase its own patrol car.

Mid Kent police’s anti-domestic violence campaign ran over the Christmas period and proved so successful that it is to be extended for another three months.

Extra funding has also been promised for a dedicated domestic violence patrol car, which will be on hand to offer assistance at peak reporting times.

Det Insp Caroline Nyman, who is co-ordinating the operation with other local domestic abuse services, said: “I am delighted with both the success of the festive campaign and the fact we have been given funding to carry on the good work.

“This patrol car will give victims of domestic abuse the vital one to one care when it’s most needed.

“This facility has already been shown to increase the number of victims who will follow through with a domestic abuse case against their aggressor and also ensures that they get access to crucial counselling services.

“If this campaign continues to prove it’s worth, as I’m sure it will, I hope it’s something that we can roll out on a permanent basis.”
