Doctor cleared of sex charges

A KENT doctor wept with relief at Maidstone Crown Court as he was cleared of indecency with two young girls.

Nathan Kailanathan, 44, of Meteor Road, West Malling, put his head in his hands and sobbed after the jury found him not guilty of all nine indecent assault charges against him.

After the hearing the GP said: “I just want to say thanks to my patients who supported me. I am relieved it is all over.”

The verdicts, delivered by the jury of eight men and four women after 10 hours, ended a long ordeal for Dr Kailanathan. It was the second time he had stood trial on the charges. The first in March had to be abandoned following legal argument about his mental state.

Dr Kailanathan was accused of molesting the girls either at his home or while on holiday in Menorca.

Dr Kailanathan, whose surgery is at the Walderslade Village Practice, denied any inappropriate behaviour. Judge Keith Simpson granted him an application for costs.
