A WOMAN found dead in her Kent home at the weekend had been fatally stabbed.

Police said 38-year-old beautician Sanambir Kaur Punni died from multiple wounds.

A large, locking pen knife found at the scene in Beaumont Drive, Northfleet, on Sunday, is thought to be the murder weapon.

The body of a man, believed to be her 46-year-old husband Nachhatar Singh Punni, was earlier found in a burning car outside the property.

A formal identification rests on DNA evidence, but police were quick to say they are not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident.

North Kent police Deputy Area Commander Chris Hogben said a motive for the brutal stabbing had yet to be established.

He said: "I can not speculate as to why Mrs Punni met her death in this violent way. Looking to establish a motive is part of the ongoing investigation."

In a statement Mrs Punni's family said: "Sam (Sanambir) was a happy, bubbly person. Her life was her family, she loved her family and was totally devoted and loyal to them.

"Everyone who knew her will miss her optimism and her love. She was an angel."
