Firefighters had to cut three drivers out of their cars after three separate accidents at roundabouts in Medway.

One of the motorists was seriously injured.

The first accident happened at the roundabout at the Strood end of the Medway Tunnel at about 6.20pm on Thursday evening when a Nissan ended up on top of the roundabout on its side.

Firefighters from Medway and Strood cut through the roof of the vehicle to free the driver, who suffered what are thought to be only minor injuries.

The second crash happened in the early hours of Friday morning when a silver Volkswagen Polo was somehow catapulted about 80ft through the air and ended up on its roof, on top of the roundabout at the bottom of Four Elms Hill.

The single vehicle crash left the driver with serious head injuries. A police spokesman had said he was in a “critical but stable" condition in Medway Maritime Hospital.

Firefighters from Strood and Hoo had cut the side off his car to free him . The road was closed for several hours as crash investigators examined the accident scene.

The road was re-opened at about 5am.

The third crash happened at about 4.30am at the Lord Lees roundabout at the top of Blue Bell Hill.

The driver of a Mercedes car, lost control of his vehicle which then left the carriageway at the roundabout and his car ended up in embedded in the crash barrier.

He was able to get out of his car as firefighters from Medway arrived. They were able to make the crash scene safe.

It is not believe the Mercedes driver was seriously injured. No other vehicles were involved.
