Emergency crews practiced
how they'd deal with a major chemical alert

Hundreds of emergency services have been practising how they
would deal with a major chemical alert in Kent.

The Port of Dover was swamped with crews from the police,
ambulance service, fire and rescue, council, the UK Border Agency
and even the Army.

The aim is to test how the life-saving crews and experts cope
with a large-scale incident at the port.

Steve Demetriou, from Kent Fire and Rescue Service, said they
are confident they would be able to cope with a chemical
incident.

He said: "The Port of Dover is a key site for the county of
Kent.

"It's something that we train for on a regular basis. All of the
agencies come together and we plan for many events. Today is a
culmination of all of that planning."
