Fears loss of gas and water could happen again

Engineers working to restore the gas supply last week.

ALL 1,000 homes in a Kent village left without gas following a burst water main have now been reconnected – but people are still asking questions.

Customers will receive compensation after some people in Hoo, near Rochester spent up to a week without any central heating or hot water.

Southern Gas Networks has informed every household they will receive compensation for each 24-hour period they were without gas.

But people affected are now asking questions about why the incident happened and are worried it may happen again.

Many residents are concerned the number of houses being built in the village is putting too much pressure on local supplies.

Sheila Mudge, of Trubridge Road, said: "We have had so much disruption. These problems all seem to have started since the building of the new development began."
