EMERGENCY fire crews were put on full alert after a private jet made a premature landing at Biggin Hill airport.

The pilot of the Cessna Citation plane radioed an emergency call to the airport after reports of smoke in the cabin.

Fire services from from Biggin Hill, Orpington, Addington, and specialist units from Beckenham and Sutton, were called out at approximately 1.10pm on Friday, and launched a full scale emergency plan.

The aircraft, scheduled to land at City Airport, Docklands, was granted permission to land at London Biggin Hill just after 1.15pm.
