Kent's firefighters are back to work this morning after their four and a half hour strike last night.

No major emergencies took place across the county but 15 calls were placed.

Crews attended fires to a car in Ashford and a van in Deal.

They were also called to a road accident involving two cars in Gravesend, after 8pm.

Initially reports suggested people were trapped, but this was not the case and crews assisted police in making the scene safe.

Another strike is due to take place on Monday morning.

Kent Fire and Rescue Service Chief Executive Ann Millington said: “Thanks to the public heeding safety warnings, we had a relatively low level of incidents.

"Incidents we attended included two vehicle fires, one road traffic collision and a rubbish fire, and we are very grateful to all of our staff who worked to keep the county safe during the strike.

“Please remember there is another strike on Monday between 6am and 8am, please take particular care if you are driving in the rush hour as rain is forecast.”
