Firefighters tackle nightclub blaze

Firefighters were called out to a Chatham nightclub after reports of a fire.

A crew were called out to Coyotes club, formally called Secrets, in New Road Avenue, Chatham, at 2.45pm on Tuesday after motorist saw smoke billowing from the grounds.

Two fire engines, both from Medway fire station were sent out to deal with the fire, but when they arrived they discovered someone on the grounds was burning some rubbish.

A spokesman said: "It turned out to be nothing in the end, someone was burning rubbish in the garden."

One motorist who saw smoke billowing from the late-night venue, was Gillingham man, Steve Crispe.

He said: “I could see the smoke but just though they may have been having a bonfire or something, then I saw the fire engines coming along the road.”
