It's officially the start of British Summer Time hours, so that can mean only one thing...snow!

Many parts of Kent are reporting brief spring snow flurries today.

Clocks went forward one hour today to mark the seasonal transition, but mother nature seems to be playing tricks.

Residents in parts of Canterbury, Ashford and Maidstone have reported light snowfall quickly followed by hail.

The Met Office warns colder weather is on its way, and will be keenly felt today as northeasterly winds sweep in.

Temperatures dipped close to freezing overnight, with many rural areas recording -4 degrees Celsius, the Met Office said.

The mercury will struggle to reach double digits today, with the stiff winds making it feel even colder.

Risk of hail and snow along eastern coasts and inland is to be expected, the Met continued, though it will become more confined to high ground in the north later in the day.

Met Office Chief Meteorologist Dan Suri said: “It will stay drier and brighter elsewhere, even so, it will be a marked change from the 18 or 19 Celsius we have been seeing in a few spots this week”.

"This cold, bright weather is due mainly to a high-pressure system that is developing to the west of the UK, which will bring cold air down from the north”.
