Total solar eclipse: What can you expect to see in Kent?
Published: 14:10, 21 August 2017
For the first time in nearly a century there will be a total solar eclipse in North America - but will we be able to see the rare spectacle?
The event has been fittingly nicknamed the Great American Eclipse and will start to be noticeable in the state of Oregon from 5.19pm (BST).
It is then expected to move eastwards towards the coast at South Carolina at around 6.43pm.

The space agency Nasa is going to help people around the world watch the spectacle unfold with a live broadcast which will last for four hours.
Unfortunately the view from Kent will be obstructed by the cloud.
It is going to be cloudy this evening through most parts of Kent with overcast conditions staying put in Margate and Sandwich, making it difficult to see the solar event.
Those who are lucky enough to avoid the bad weather conditions in the county can expect to see a tiny sliver taken out of the moon by it's shadow at around 8pm.
The maximum effect will be visible in Kent at around 8.04pm.
The next time a total solar eclipse will be visible in the UK in 73 years.
