There are several flood alerts in place around the county following heavy rainfall.

The Environment Agency has warned that river levels have risen on the LIttle Stour and Nailbourne in Canterbury due to heavy rainfall yesterday and overnight.

Areas most at risk include low-lying land and roads along the River Nailbourne around Bekesbourne, and areas along the Little Stour around Littlebourne, but no property flooding is expected.

A flood alert for Ashford says flooding is possible in the area. “River levels remain high on the Great Stour due to heavy rainfall on Monday and Tuesday of this week. Areas most at risk include low lying land and roads along the Great Stour in and around Ashford, the Aylesford Stream at Willesborough and other watercourses around Kingsnorth.”

Areas along the River Medway at risk include Yalding, Allington, Tovil and Maidstone.

The Environment Agency said: “Areas most at risk include low lying land and towpaths along the Medway, between Teston and Allington Lock, including underpasses at Maidstone Town Centre.

For Tonbridge it added: “Areas most at risk include low lying land and roads at Tonbridge playing fields and town centre car parks, through to Tudeley, East Peckham and Yalding.

“This is likely to include the sports pitches, also known as the racecourse, in Tonbridge and Postern Lane. Flooding of Lees Road at Laddingford, The Lees at Yalding and Little Venice park at Yalding is possible from early on Friday morning.

Flood peaks expected later on Friday afternoon and are expected to remain high overnight into Saturday morning.

There is also a flood alert for the River Darent from Westerham to Dartford.

Property damage is unlikely, but people are advised to avoid using low lying footpaths and any bridges near local watercourses and not to attempt to walk or drive through flood water.
