Householders in coastal areas across Kent have been warned to prepare for flooding overnight and in the coming days.

The Environment Agency has issued alerts for high tides overnight stretching from Dartford to Deal.

It says areas such as Crayford, Greenhithe, Northfleet, Gravesend and the North Kent Marshes could be affected.

Flooding is possible in the Medway towns, River, Medway, and Medway Estuary, as well as the Isle of Grain, Aylesford, Lower Halstow, and Middle and Lower Stoke.

The North Kent Coast from Kemsley to Seasalter, including Sheerness, Minster, Queenborough, Leysdown, Sittingbourne, and Faversham are also at risk.

Areas from Pegwell Bay to Deal including Sandwich, the Pfizer site and the Tidal Stour between the sea and Stonar Cut are others included in the warning.

An Environment Agency spokesman said: "From Wednesday evening through to Saturday, spring tides combined with positive surges and strong wind conditions are raising the risk of some coastal flood impacts.

"This flood alert is therefore likely to remain in force until Saturday.

"We are not expecting significant impacts but localised flooding of low lying land in coastal areas and minor wave spray is possible in some locations.

"The public are advised to take extra care along the seafront and be aware of higher than normal water levels along the River Stour."

People are advised to be prepared to protect their families, pets, and property and be careful if venturing out to beaches, promenades, coastal footpaths and roads.
