Several flood alerts have been issued across Kent.

River levels are rising after heavy rainfall over the last 24 hours and flooding is expected to impact low-lying land, roads and paths.

An alert has been issued near the Lower Rover Medway in the Maidstone area, which comes into force from 10pm tonight.

It covers Hampstead Lock at Yalding to Allington Lock, including East Farleigh, Wateringbury, Teston and Teston Park, Tovil and Maidstone including Millennium Park.

The Environment Agency’s website states: “No property flooding is expected. Further heavy showers are possible overnight, before clearing on Tuesday morning.

“Flooding of low-lying land is expected to continue into Tuesday afternoon.

“We are closely monitoring river levels and are checking rivers for blockages in the area.

“Please avoid using low-lying footpaths near local watercourses and do not attempt to walk or drive through flood water.”

A separate flood alert is in force along the River Beult and its tributaries around Smarden, Headcorn and Staplehurst.

Another is in place in the Ashford area, particularly on the River Great Stour, the Whitewater Dyke and the River East Stour.
