Flood alerts have been issued for parts of Kent as Storm Bella moves across the county.

The Environment Agency is warning people in and around Herne Bay and Whitstable, and Tunbridge Wells, Tonbridge and Weald to be prepared for flooding as river levels are forecast to rise as a result of heavy rainfall.

It comes after The Met Office issued an amber weather warning for most of the region for this afternoon and tomorrow.

The alert says flooding is possible for the Plenty Brook from Eddington to the sea, including Herne Bay, the Swalecliffe Brook from near Court Lees to the sea, including Chestfield and Swalecliffe, and the West Brook from the railway line to the sea including Studd Hill and Hampton.

It adds that flooding of roads and low lying land is expected between 8am tomorrow, from local rivers.

An Environment Agency spokesman said: "We believe there is a possibility of flooding for low lying land and roads along Swalecliffe Brook in Swalecliffe and around Herne Bay and other local watercourses.

"Impacts are expected to be limited to low lying land and roads along rivers in the area. However if more rain falls than forecast the outcome could be worse.

"Further rainfall is forecast later on Monday, December 28 and more details will follow later as necessary.

"We are closely monitoring the situation."

The agency said there was also a concern for flooding from the River Bourne from Hadlow, in Tonbridge, to East Peckham including Golden Green and Little Mill.

And for the River Teise area, from Lamberhurst to Goudhurst, including the River Bewl and tributaries of the River Teise. All from 7am tomorrow.

There is also a flood warning for The River Darent from Westerham to Dartford, including Brasted, Sundridge, Chipstead, Dunton Green, Otford, Eynsford and South Darenth.

Meanwhile, flooding is also possible for The River Medway from Forest Row to Penshurst, including Ashurst, from 5.30am tomorrow.
