A number of flood alerts have been issued this morning - stretching along the north coast of the county.

The Environment Agency warns there is a threat of flooding from Dartford all the way to Margate - and is advising those living in at-risk areas to 'be prepared' for high water levels.

The flood alerts are in place from Dartford to Allhallows, the tidal parts of the River Medway, including the Isle of Grain and Medway Estuary, Sheppey to Seasalter and Whitstable to Margate.

Canterbury City Council - which covers Whitstable and Herne Bay - says it is expecting a higher than usual tide at 2.40pm and will be closing flood gates in parts of the district.

Advice from the Environment Agency says "flooding is possible" in these areas, that those living in them should "avoid using low lying footpaths or entering areas prone to flooding".

It adds: "Start acting on your flood plan if you have one. The Environment Agency Flood Warning System has issued this message based on rising river or tidal levels."

The warnings were issued in the early hours of this morning.
