Fantastic flying machines lit up the skies above Headcorn during a two-day flying extravaganza.

With 25 hot air balloons lighting their way, the 15 aircraft dazzled the crowds at the Headcorn Spitfire Proms Spectacular on Saturday and Sunday .

Now in its fourth year, the KM-sponsored event attracted about 3,500 people on both days, who enjoyed seeing vintage cars, steam and live music.

The highlight was the proms itself on Saturday evening, with solist soprano Sarah Ryan who was taken for a spin in one of the aircraft before her performance.

Her solo with the National Orchestra was accompanied by a choreographed flying display featuring legendary pilot Charlie Brown in a Spitfire.

A Hurricane, Mustang, Tiger Moth and others also entertained the crowds, who came prepared with picnics and flags.

Among those at the proms was Squadron Leader Mohinder Singh Pujji, DFC, 90, who flew for four years during the Second World War and was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross. He survived being shot down and himself shot down two Messerschmitt 109s.

On Sunday, live music came from Hobo Jones and the Logan Wilson Band, with popular tribute acts Rumours of Fleetwood Mac and ABBA Magic.

Headcorn Aerodrome owner Jamie Freeman said: “I think it was the best one we have ever done.”
