Margate Football Club has been thrown a lifeline in its bid to avoid administration.

The Hartsdown Park side now has until November 27 to find a solution to its financial problems.

The club is currently locked in a battle with HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC), who had served a winding up order against the club under the Insolvency Act 1986.

The disagreement relates to money HMRC claims it is owed under a previous Company Voluntary Arrangement, although the club has not revealed the exact sum of money involved.

Representatives of the club appeared at the Royal Courts of Justice, London, on Tuesday, where they were granted the reprieve.

A statement issued by the club read: "Margate Football Club is delighted to announce that the application for an adjournment against the winding up petition has been successful in court.

"We would like to thank supporters from this club and others who have been sending in their well wishes."

The club also revealed that a planning application has been submitted to Thanet council for a proposed medical centre at the Hartsdown Road ground.
