Carl Muggleton has joined Gillingham’s backroom team as goalkeeping coach, initially on a short-term basis.
The 43-year-old had a similar role at Notts County before being appointed as Martin Allen’s No.2 at Meadow Lane in April 2011.
He made a total of more than 650 league and cup appearances in a 23-year career, and made his league debut for Chesterfield, on loan from Leicester, the week after the Spireites’ 10-0 hammering at Priestfield in September 1987, when first choice Jim Brown was injured.
Allen said: "Carl is a top quality coach and person, and we are lucky to have him.
"We are in discussions with the chairman at the moment, because I don’t think they have had a full-time goalkeeping coach.
"Finances are involved, but Carl would be a fantastic addition to the staff, he knows his stuff, and is brilliant at his job."
New Gills signing Stuart Nelson said: " Carl was excellent with me when I was at County, and one of the best people I have ever worked with."
Do you think Muggleton will be a valuable addition to the Gills set-up? Have your say below.
