Gillingham assistant manager John Schofield writes exclusively for the KM Group

It was a special victory last weekend in Chesterfield which broke the club record for away wins in a season but we know it counts for nothing at the moment.

It is going to be remembered further down the line but right now, although it is a great achievement and we are proud of it, it is irrelevant. All it has done is help us get to where we want to be.

We are glad to have achieved it so soon as it could have been something hanging around for the next three or four away games. We have a busy month now and in a fortnight’s time, we are in single figures for games left.

I wouldn’t say it has flown by but when you look at how long is left, where has it all gone?!

It is still so tight, I am not sure if we will still know which way it is going to go by the end of the month.

Everyone is still competitive in the division and you could see that by the results on Tuesday night, with Port Vale losing at home while Cheltenham and Rotherham drew.

Aldershot stand in our way this weekend and like we have found a few times this season, we are playing a team with a relatively new manager in charge. When a new manager comes in it gives everyone a fresh start at the club and with that comes fresh expectation.
