Gillingham boss Andy Hessenthaler could act in January when the window re-opens after Thursday's loan deadline passed with no action at Priestfield.

Hessenthaler (pictured) believes the situation could be different at the halfway point of the season.

He said: "People will pick up injuries and suspensions and I think come January when the window opens teams will do a bit of business and we might even do a bit ourselves to freshen things up again if we can.

"Some people might go out and some might come in."

Hessenthaler didn’t feel his squad needed any additions this time around.

"We felt we were okay," he said. "We had a phone call about one player and we won’t be naming names but it didn’t happen.

"I am sure things will happen in January and we need to get some of the younger ones to get some minutes in their legs. It is not easy for them because we don’t have reserve games and they tend to stand still a little bit.

"We have had a good chat with the young pros and we need to get them out, perhaps when the window opens, or even now because they can get out to non-league clubs still. There might be an opportunity for some of them to get some games."
