Injured Gillingham captain Barry Fuller has sent his best wishes to his team-mates after being ruled out of this weekend’s match at Chesterfield.

Fuller was taken to hospital after a crude tackle at Priestfield last Saturday but scans have revealed that he has escaped any serious damage.

He could even take part in the play-offs if the Gills make it there by getting a result on Saturday.

Fuller (pictured) said: "I wish the lads all the best. Hopefully we can get the right result and make the play-offs.

"I feel that we deserve our place after the start we made to the season.

"Home form has not been good recently but if we get a result at Chesterfield we can really go for it. It’s just unfortunate now that it is out of our hands."

Fuller was floored by a tackle by Macclesfield’s Tony Diagne within eight minutes of coming on as a second-half substitute.

Initially there were fears he had broken a leg or suffered ligament damage but both have been ruled out.

Fuller admits he is lucky his leg is still in one piece.

He added: "It was a nasty one. The lad apologised to me, which was nice but he was late and he knew it.

"He bent his leg just as he made the challenge and the doctor said that stopped me getting a broken leg or worse."
