Gillingham boss Martin Allen hailed his defensive pairing of Leon Legge and Adam Barrett after they led their team to an important away point on Saturday.
Legge’s second goal in four games for Gillingham earned a 1-1 draw at Aldershot as he again displayed his prowess at both ends of the field.
Allen said: “He is colossal. It took a few weeks because he hasn’t played for ages to get up to match speed and he is getting better and better.
“He was immense from start to finish. All the players we have signed so far have played their part.
“We have a few injuries, to Myles Weston, Charlie Allen and Andy Frampton. That’s three good players we have missing, but the lads are doing well.”
Fellow defender Adam Barrett played on despite feeling ill and Allen added: "He should have come off at half-time as he was sick. The fact he made it through the 94 minutes was all credit to him. Legge and Barrett have been fantastic for us.
“Week in, week out, we ride it together, the ups and downs and it’s another point toward our total.”
Gillingham’s point on the road extended their lead at the top of League 2 to three points over Port Vale, who lost 2-1 away at Oxford.
