Gillingham have approached West Ham United about extending Frank Nouble’s loan period.

The striker can stay for a maximum 93 days and his current deal expires this weekend following the trip to Torquay United.

Nouble scored in his opening two games for the Gills after arriving on an initial month-long loan and Hessenthaler wants to see more of the 20-year-old.

"I have spoken to West Ham and we should get a decision this week," said Hessenthaler.

Nouble has already declared his desire to play more games for the League 2 side.

"Frank wants to stay, which is great news, and that makes us feel good as a management team," said the Gills manager.

"The players and the football club should also be happy that someone like Frank is enjoying his time here.

"He has been effective in every game he has played. He is a handful and it’s good news. We will be able to confirm that before the weekend."

Former Gills assistant manager Ian Hendon, who is now development coach with the Hammers, has played a vital role in the deal and he was in the crowd to see Nouble face AFC Wimbledon last week.

Nouble said: "The manager (Hessenthaler) has told me to express myself and I am enjoying doing that."
