Gillingham players will be urged to focus on League 2 points this week following their cup heroics at Leyton Orient on Saturday.

Promotion remains Gills’ priority and planning for a trip to Macclesfield will be boss Andy Hessenthaler’s sole objective this week.

His team will return to training in confident mood after beating a second successive League 1 team in the FA Cup at the weekend.

Hessenthaler (pictured at Orient) said: "We’ll be brought back down to earth at the weekend and that’s not being disrespectful to Macclesfield but we are in this league for a reason and we have to get out of it.

"We will come in this week and start preparing for Macclesfield. December is tough, it always is.

"The players will have to put the cup to the back of their minds.

"We have proved we are capable of playing in the league above but we have to earn the right to get out of this division. If we keep showing that commitment and desire, like we did on Saturday, then we have every chance."

How much of a boost will the win at Orient give to Gillingham's promotion push, or is the FA Cup run a distraction? Have your say below.
