Andy Hessenthaler is desperate for his Gillingham team to keep it clean this weekend.

The Gills host Oxford on Saturday at Priestfield having failed to collect a clean sheet in their previous 10 matches.

"We need a clean sheet," said Gills boss Hessenthaler (pictured). "We need to score more than one goal to win games as we are always likely to concede.

"The best teams and those that get promoted are solid defensively so let’s get two or three clean sheets on the board as we’ve got goals in this team – we’ve proved that."

Hessenthaler voiced his frustration at the goals his team are conceding.

The Gills are suffering from a lack of concentration and while the manager is happy with his team’s defending, individual errors are not easily solved on the training ground.

"I’ve been happy the majority of the time defensively," added Hessenthaler. "At times we are too deep but it’s about getting the balance between the defence and midfield.

"We do a lot of work on back four stuff but ultimately if you look at the game, it’s concentration. We should always think the worst, especially around our own box but we don’t always do that and get punished."
