Cody McDonald celebrates his goal against Stevenage with Mark Bentley
After yet another busy week, we still see ourselves in a good position in the league, now just three points off third place.
Four points out of the last two games can be seen as a good return but we are all disappointed that it wasn't six.
Aldershot at home last Saturday saw us bounce back from the defeat against Chesterfield. The game was far from pretty with both teams never getting into their stride.
We could possibly say that maybe a bit of tiredness set in after all the games we have had recently but we managed to find that something extra and once again Cody has won us the game with two great finishes.
It was disappointing to concede at the end. It was a great strike by their player in one of few shots on goal.
The lads were delighted to have won the game even though it was not a spectacle for everybody. It put us back into the play-offs which gave us confidence going into the Stevenage game.
We went into the game knowing plenty about the way they play after playing them only a month before. From the start they thought that they could bully and intimidate us with their physical prescence.
Normally you come up against teams with three or four 6ft-plus players but they seem to have a squad full of them. The referee at times lost a little bit of control letting a few naughty challenges go unpunished.
The tackle on Josh from my angle was quite nasty and it left him on crutches after the game. I think we certainly held our own against them. At times they put us under a lot of pressure with their direct style of play but when we managed to get the ball on the floor and pass it, we caused them problems.
Their two centre-halves struggled to deal with the strength of Bayo and the movement of Cody which saw them both score.
They have a great understanding and will be crucial for us until the end of the season.
It was nice for me to finally get my first start for over three months. It’s been a frustrating few weeks being on the bench.
I’m not the greatest of watchers but with the team doing so well, I have few complaints.
All I can do is work as hard as possible and do as well as I can to make an impression on the manager.
With a lot of reserve games being cancelled over the past weeks, it’s frustrating because you need to have game time not just for fitness levels but the mental side as well.
I will be working hard to try and get a run in the side as I know what I’m capable of doing for the team and determined to get back to that level.
One person who looked like he had never been away was Garry Richards who was outstanding when he came on.
Like myself, he has been working hard and waiting patiently for a chance to get back in and with Josh touch-and-go with his injury, Gaz may well have a great chance to stake a claim for that centre-half role.
We now go into the next two games which are at home with a great chance of getting closer to that automatic promotion spot. But it will not be easy as we will be against two in-form teams.
Firstly Oxford who, since we beat them at their place, have put a run of good results together that pretty much matches our own and they are now among the promotion fighters.
Rotherham, who have not been as consistent in the last few weeks, will also be a tough test as they certainly have a few players who can win matches and punish mistakes.
There was bad news for Danny Spiller last week with his finger injury. It is such a frustrating injury to have because people will just assume you shouldn’t miss games because of a broken finger.
But if you get told that your finger is hanging together by just one ligament and any fall could result in losing your finger completely, then you would understand their concern.
We all wish Spills a speedy recovery.
This week saw the transfer window close and I believe we just missed out on signing Charlie Adam along with half the other clubs he was linked with!
The last couple of days were crazy and the valuation on some of those players was ridiculous.
£35 miliion for Andy Carroll who has done well for just six months seems a little risky.
