Gillingham fans who were offered a refund for their trip to Accrington can claim cheap coach travel to Plymouth as compensation.

The Gills lost 4-3 to Accrington last month and boss Andy Hessenthaler made a pledge to repay those fans for the journey.

After the game, he said: "We will pay for all the supporters who travelled because it’s not acceptable. Every player in the dressing room will contribute."

Hessenthaler and the coaching staff were also set to contribute.

But problems soon arose as many of the 261 fans present were not given ticket stubs upon entry to the Crown Ground at Accrington and only a fraction of the away travel went with the official supporters’ club.

The Gills have set a number of criteria for fans to claim their discount.

A match or coach ticket is acceptable, as is a train ticket or a receipt from the motorway services. Faces of some of the fans have also been featured in the Medway Messenger newspaper in a bid to help people prove they were at the ground.

The standard price for Gillingham fans to travel to Plymouth is £30 for adults and £24 for juniors, but the fans who went to Accrington can claim a seat for a tenner.

Anyone wanting to claim their discount must visit the club’s ticket office by Wednesday, February 29, with proof of their trip to Accrington.

The Plymouth game is on Saturday, March 3, with the coach departing the ground at 7am for the 250 mile trip.
