Danny Spiller has revealed his desire to one day manage Gillingham Football Club.

The 29-year-old midfielder, who started as a trainee with the Gills, wants to stay with the club when his playing career ends.

Spiller (pictured) is in his second spell with the Gills, having left for Millwall in 2007, before returning to where it all began at the start of this season.

He has made 169 appearances for the club and during Monday night’s live Q&A session he indicated his desire to stay beyond his playing days.

"I can see myself in blue until the end of my career," Spiller said.

"I would love to be a manager one day (once Andy Hessenthaler has retired). It helps knowing how the club operates because I have been there so long.

"I will be getting my coaching badges done so I am in good stead if something pops up at a later date. I am just concentrating on my football at the minute.

"It would be nice to be playing at a higher level which is what we all want. To do that with Gillingham would be great."

Spiller has already taken the first steps towards moving into coaching by helping his brother Lee Spiller out at his Maidstone-based soccer academy.

"We have vastly improved many youngsters around the town and have had 50 youngsters sign at professional clubs since starting," he said.
