An elderly man was injured when he tried to help a woman sexually assaulted on a bus.

The 81-year-old was sitting near a 53-year-old woman who was targeted by a man between Margate and Herne Bay.

But as he went to help the victim, he was elbowed in the face and arm by her attacker.

Other passengers rushed to his aid and the man fled the bus in Birchington.

The attack happened on the number 36 Kent Top Travel service on Saturday afternoon.

The woman said she was assaulted by a grey-haired man, who sat down next to her on the back seat, before touching her.
