A guest house in Alkham has been judged one of the best places in the South East for travellers to lay their heads.

Alkham Court Farmhouse in Meggett Lane came highly commended at the Tourism ExSEllence Awards.

Wendy and Neil Burrows were shortlisted out of about 4,000 B&Bs and guest houses in the region after impressing a judge who visited the farmhouse in September.

Wendy said: “We’re happy our hospitality has been recognised. It’s hard work, but we do offer a good service with quality accommodation.”

The B£&B and guest house category was judged by former chief hotel inspector for the AA, Peter Birnie who looked for excellence, quality and innovation as well as customer service.

The couple have worked at the farm since 1965. They had the farmhouse built as a family home and converted it into a B&B six years ago.

It is now a horse livery and working farm.

“We hope to offer something different for our guests,” Wendy added.
