Goals from Luis Cumbers and Joe Healy at the end of either half got Welling back to winning ways in Blue Square Bet South at relegation threatened Hampton & Richmond Borough.
Welling boss Jamie Day again rang the changes with skipper Jack Parkinson and talisman Loick Pires among those left on the substitutes bench.
Hampton had a goal disallowed in the 22nd minute when Dave Tarpey tapped home after keeper Jamie Turner’s excellent one-handed save denied Joe Turner, but the assistant referee's flag cut short any celebrations.
Within a minute Tarpey set-up James Simmonds, but he shot wide of the near post.
Welling responded with Cumbers’ goal-bound shot blocked for a corner, from which Anthony Acheampong headed narrowly over.
Welling broke the deadlock two minutes before the break when Loui Fazakerley crossed from the right and, when Cumbers’ first shot was saved by keeper Craig Ross, Healy (pictured) unselfishly squared the ball back for Cumbers to score from close range.
Two minutes after the break, Day, back in the side after a lengthy suspension, saw his right-foot 20-yard free-kick come back off the inside of the post before a scrappy exchange saw numerous yellow cards for both sides.
Welling were reduced to 10-men in the 89th minute when referee Jake Hillier showed Lee Clarke, who was unfortunate to be cautioned for an excellent tackle earlier, a second yellow for a foul on Darren Powell.
Three minutes into stoppage-time Mr Hillier pointed to the spot when home captain Lewis Ferrell pulled back goal-bound Cumbers in the penalty area.
The referee inexplicably failed to show a second yellow card, but Healy dinked home from the spot with what proved to be the last kick of the game.
Turner, playing his third goal since re-joining the club on transfer deadline day, capped an impressive display by recording a third clean sheet.
Bromley failed to secure their safety in Blue Square Bet South on Saturday after recording a goalless draw at home to already-relegated Thurrock.
However the point did enhance the Lilywhites’ chances of avoiding the drop as the three other sides below them all lost.
It means that should second-bottom Hampton & Richmond fail to beat play-off chasing Basingstoke on Tuesday night, Mark Goldberg’s side will remain in the division.
