A firefighter on his way to work stopped to help a young boy who had been hit by a car.

Strood's green watch crew manager Ken Spratt was travelling along Bill Street Road, Frindsbury, when the accident happened at 5.50pm on Tuesday.

Mr Spratt dialled 999 from his mobile and requested an ambulance. He then sat with the boy and comforted him until the ambulance arrived.

The boy's parents are believed to have arrived at the scene shortly after the accident as a group of friends who were with the boy at the time had managed to contact them.

Mr Spratt said: "He was probably about 10-years-old. He was complaining that his leg and elbow were hurting.

"The driver of the car did stop at the scene."
