The boss of a hotel near Sandwich has explained his decision to turn down more than £1 million from the Government to house asylum seekers.

Richard Martin runs the Blazing Donkey in Ham and was approached by an agency who guaranteed 100% occupancy for a year.

However, he says it would have meant cancelling weddings and making most of his staff redundant.
