Firefighters had to ferry eight tons of water from a hydrant to deal with a suspicious blaze in a 40ft long skip.

It happened at 8.30pm on Sunday night on the new Great Easthall housing scheme off Tonge Road, Murston.

A spokesman for Kent Fire and Rescue spokesman, said:"The skip was being used to dump building rubbish from the estate.

"It took us one and a half hours to deal with the incident because our fire appliance had to go to and from the hydrant to collect more water.

"We believe the fire was started deliberately."

One pump from Sittingbourne fire station attended.
