How the Stone rolled... Dartford hellraiser Keith Richards' car going up for auction

If only it could talk, it would have many tales to tell.

A convertible car owned by Keith Richards while the Rolling Stones were based in the south of France is going up for auction today.

The 1950 Pontiac Chieftain Silver Streak is expected to fetch up to £22,000 when it goes under the hammer at a Bonhams auction.

Hellraiser Richards grew up in Dartford and met fellow rocker Mick Jagger when the pair attended the town's Wentworth Primary School.

But it was only when the band relocated to the Cote d'Azur in the 1970s that he drove the soft-top car.

Richards used the American-made vehicle as the Stones were joined by a steady stream of visitors, from William Burroughs to Gram Parsons, and recorded the acclaimed album Exile on Main Street.

The car is being sold by Bonhams at the RAF Museum, Hendon.
