A budding cricket star has scored his first century – at the age of nine.

William Falcon, of Spring Grove School in Wye, matched England legend Ian Botham’s innings of 118 against Australia in 1981.

William struck gold when his school played a home game against the Lorenden prep school team from Painters Forstal, near Faversham, winning by 10 wickets.

Head teacher Bill Jones said: "He showed patience, courage and intelligence.

"William's team-mates were thrilled to be part of the success and cheered loudly as the winning runs were struck."

William twice hit 22 in one over. In all he hit 18 fours and six sixes.
