The search to find a missing father is to feature on a television programme.

Retired teacher Amarjit Lehal, 70, disappeared nearly six months ago.

The Alzheimers sufferer had left his home in Chatham to go for a walk but never came back.

Now his disappearance will feature on the BBC1 show Missing Persons to be aired next spring.

The programme follows a countywide police hunt for Mr Lehal that has involved searches with sniffer dogs and helicopters and a leaflet campaign.

The effort has so far failed to provide any information as to his whereabouts and it is hoped the show will discover some extra clues.

Shortly after Mr Lehal went missing his wife Ravinder and son Harjit held a tearful press conference at Medway police station.

Harjit said: “He’s a lovely chap; you may have had a passing conversation with him in the street. He may have smiled at you. He may have asked after you or passed the time of day.

“He was last seen on the day he disappeared on the edge of Blue Bell Hill village. We’re concerned for his safety, but we’re trying to keep up hope.”

Mr Lehal is 5ft 10in with short, black greying hair and a full beard.

When he went missing he was wearing a blue checked shirt, blue trousers, a navy jacket and grey trainers.
