Base jumper Daniel Sherry outside Medway Court

A daredevil who threw himself off the 110ft Channel Tunnel Rail Link bridge at Cuxton has been fined £140 for trespassing.

Daniel Sherry, 29, of Kitchener Road, Strood, admitted the offence when he appeared before Medway Magistrates today.

After the case, he said: “It was an expensive jump, but it’s not put me off jumping, I’ll be doing it again.”

The skydiver jumped from the Cuxton end of the high-speed Medway viaduct on April 16.

But had he touched the overhead 25,000 volt electrical cables he would have been killed instantly.

At the time his actions were described as irresponsible by the company which manages the Medway section of the line and British Transport Police began an investigation.

The jump was captured by a Medway Messenger photographer and filmed for our website.

Debbie Jones, prosecuting, told the court how Sherry had contacted the Medway Messenger and told reporters to go to the bridge, ‘because something was going to happen’.

Sherry had co-operated fully when he was later arrested for the offence.

Chairman of the bench Christine Ford said: “We take into account your early guilty plea and fine you £140.”

Sherry was also ordered to pay £60 court costs and £15 in surcharges.

The adrenaline junkie remained defiant and has vowed to carry on jumping from large structures, but will not trespass on the railway again.

He said: “I wouldn’t recommend trespassing on Channel Tunnel property.
