Drivers are warned to take care as road surfaces are expected to fall below freezing tonight.

Gritters will be out gritting main roads throughout Kent from 10pm, to help prevent ice and frost from forming.

But motorists travelling tonight and tomorrow morning are urged to watch out for icy patches, particularly on minor routes that are left untreated.

Kent Highways says: "They should drive cautiously and be deliberate and slower in actions, and not be surprised by 'sudden' traffic light changes or other vehicles braking.

"Harsh braking, harsh steering or harsh acceleration are key precursors to skidding on ice and snow."

Later this week, a yellow warning of rain is set to be in place across Kent.

The Met Office has put the alert in place for Wednesday and Thursday, as more heavy rain is expected.
