Pictures have revealed the extent of flooding across Kent following heavy rain.

It comes after the Met Office issued a yellow weather warning for rain for the county, plus other parts of the south east.

Heavy rain caused flooding in Sittingbourne

The bad weather has caused delays to rail services and on the roads, with part of the M2 closed due in part to a crash and also flooding. Elsewhere, greens have been turned into small lakes and roads have been left underwater.

Homes in Tonbridge, Malling and Sheerness suffered minor flooding and calls were made to the fire service due to rising flood water and drives.

A spokesman for the service said: "We are advising people to be aware of the flood risk in their area and to take action where it's needed and to sign up to the Environment Agency's flood alerts.

"In an emergency if your property is flooding, you need rescuing and there is a risk to life, call 999 and ask for fire. vCheck with vulnerable neighbours or relatives. If they are at risk of flooding, contact them to make sure they are prepared and know what to do should their home flood. Never attempt to drive through flooded roads or fords. Water is often deeper than it looks and may be moving quite fast. Your vehicle may become stranded or be swept away and there may be hazards under the water.

A second weather alert has now been issued for wind, with Kent expecting to be battered by 'severe gales' later today.
