Inside View with Charlton Athletic defender Fede Bessone

Fede Bessone

Tuesday night’s match against Milton Keynes Dons was a bit too early for my comeback but I hope to be back in action for Charlton Athletic soon.

It’s been frustrating sitting on the sidelines for the recent matches after my hamstring injury but I’ve been back running for a week or so and have started doing bits of training, so I’m nearing full fitness.

As soon as I am fit, I will be ready but I want to be available until the end of the season. It’s no good if I rush back, only last 20 minutes and am then ruled out for another four weeks.

Unfortunately, loan players can pick up muscle strains when they go to another club simply because they’ve usually not been playing for a while beforehand. I’d gone nearly four months without playing. I’d played reserve-team games but the intensity is not the same.

In the two games I have played, the team won, though, so maybe I’m a bit of a lucky omen. I still have a lot to show – I haven’t done much yet. I feel like I owe the club. I want to play and show everyone what I can do and get the club back into those play-offs places, which are still not out of reach even though we lost in midweek.

We have to focus on each game 100 per cent, starting with Brentford on Saturday. One win and things can change quickly.

Even though I’ve mainly been in the treatment room – with a few other players at the moment – I’ve settled at Charlton. It’s helped that Jose Semedo and Miguel Llera speak Spanish but all the guys have been magnificent. I’ve found an apartment in Canary Wharf and I’m looking forward to getting out and having a proper look around London.

It’s been difficult to do anything touristy so far because of my injury and I need to concentrate on getting fit. But when I am better, I will go and explore.

A former team-mate of mine had a good night on Tuesday as Lionel Messi scored twice for Barcelona as they beat Arsenal in the Champions League.

We played together for Barcelona C for a year and you could see how good he was, even then.

He had all the tricks. He would only play at home with us, though, because if he played away, the opposition would try to kill him!

At the moment, I’m not looking too far beyond getting back playing again but I’d be happy for my loan move to be made permanent at the end of the season.

I still have two years on my contract at Leeds, though, so we’ll have to wait and see.
