Maidstone Crown Court

A man who sent his partner “abusive and explicit” text messages in which he threatened to kill her and torch their home has been jailed for 14 months.

Umit Aziz, 42, targeted Lisa Siketi following the break-up of their relationship and an argument over money.

Maidstone Crown Court also heard that Aziz, formerly of Southwood Road, Tunbridge Wells, barricaded himself in Miss Siketi’s bedroom, cut up her clothes and then urinated around the room.

Abusive text messages meant for the mother-of-two were also sent via her 15-year-old daughter.

Jailing Aziz today Judge Charles Macdonald QC said he could find no mitigation which would enable him to impose anything other than custody.

“You targeted a woman with whom you were in a relationship and who had care of chldren. You also included her daughter in the offending,” said the judge.

He continued: “You have no insight and very little real remorse.”

Aziz admitted harassment and damaging property. The threatening text messages included “Don’t matter what it takes. I will find her one way or another” and “I have people on standby. One word from me and they will petrol bomb the house”.

Judge Macdonald made no order for compensation due to Aziz’s lack of means, but said it was “richly deserved” by Miss Siketi.

The court heard the offences were committed in January this year, just five days after the expiry of a two-year restraining order imposed on Aziz in relation to a conviction for harassment in which he sent texts to his ex-wife threatening to snatch their daughter.

Aziz, now of no fixed address, was also convicted of battery against another former partner.

Judge Macdonald imposed a two-year restraining order in respect of Miss Siketi which will begin upon Aziz’s release.
He is expected to serve half his sentence, less 131 days already spent on remand.
