A jury is out considering a verdict in the trial of a Kent father accused of killing his new-born baby.

Christopher Sellman is alleged to have assaulted his daughter Tiffany when she was just 25 days old and caused a "catastrophic collapse" that led to her death in November 2008.

The 24-year-old refuse collector at first said the baby had trapped wind and went "floppy", losing colour. But he later claimed he dropped her and she hit her head on a changing table.

Sellman's girlfriend, Pamela Burdge, 24, gave birth to Tiffany prematurely on October 7, 2008, and they lived in Greggs Wood Road, Tunbridge Wells, but are no longer together.

Sellman, of The Hurst, Tonbridge, denies manslaughter. He has been cleared of murder by direction of the judge, Mr Justice Bean.

The jury will not return to Maidstone Crown Court to continue deliberations until March 16.
